It is interesting to see the different methods that Jesus used during His earthly ministry. Let me discuss some of these examples. Let us look at the narration on John 5: 1 - 18. In this story Jesus healed the Impotent man on the Sabbath day. When I look at the story and the methods that Jesus used, I can see some important principles on the story. The principles that I see are;
[*] Jesus use old methods:
Compare John 5: 6 - 9 and Mark 2: 8 - 12. This is just one of the many examples where Jesus used old methods in his ministry.
[*] Jesus improves on old methods:
Compare John 5: 6 - 9 and Mark 2: 8 - 12. This is an example where Jesus improves on an old methods in order to address the needs at the time.
[*] Jesus uses various methods:
Compare John 5: 6 - 9 and John 4: 49 - 51. These stories tell us that Jesus healed the sick with different methods. He varied His methods in order to cater for the diverse needs of humanity.
[*] Jesus uses new methods
The method that Jesus used on John 5: 1 - 18 was a new method to the Impotent man. The impotent man did not see this method used in the past. It showed that Jesus was prepared to introduce new method as He saw it best.
In summary I can see that as Disciples of Jesus we can follow His examples. Scan our community. What are the needs out there in the community?. We, as Disciples of Jesus must be prepared to use old methods, improve on old methods, use various methods or even take risk and use new methods.
